The State of the Mom was created with one mission in mind – to tell the story of the modern mom through creative, engaging, story-driven video segments. Our goal is to illuminate the evolving state of the modern mother with segments featuring parenting, health, fashion, education, inspiration, business and innovation.
The State of the Mom is the brain-child of Leane “Lee” Vandeman, a Los Angeles based producer/writer in non-fiction/reality television. A self-proclaimed “modern mom”, Lee seeks the perfect balance between her home life and her professional one. Her three kids (ages 7, 5, and 2) keep her heart rooted at home but her mind continues to yearn to craft stories that will inspire, educate and entertain. The State of the Mom is a goal to merge her two loves – being a mom and telling stories through video.
Lee’s career in the entertainment industry began 20 years ago on the CBS hit reality series “Rescue 911.” A graduate of the University of Southern California’s School of Journalism, Lee has always loved telling the stories of real people and their lives and graduated at a time when the world of cable television was exploding with possibility in non-fiction video storytelling. She has produced shows for CBS, MSNBC, A & E, AMC, Paramount Television, Lifetime, Discovery Health, TLC, and Bravo among others.
Lee’s foray into the online world began in October 2008 with a personal blog of creative expression, Moms without Blogs. It was there that she discovered a vibrant community of kindred spirits where tales of modern motherhood were being told daily. Since the beginning of her online life, Lee has discovered that opportunity exists in producing original video content for the millions of moms who spend time online searching not only for information but also inspiration.
Phase One of The State of the Mom has been a grassroots creative effort spearheaded by Lee and supported by a small team of friends, colleagues, and moms who believe in the vision. The goal for The State of the Mom is to illuminate the unique experience of the modern mom and to grow into a community where moms can come to hear and witness the stories of their peers.
The state of the mom is changing. We’re telling the story.
